Pregnancy sickness with a 14 month old...

...is a lot different than the first time when I could lay in bed all day, sleep and watch movies (and if course run to the bathroom to throw up every 15 minutes). Now Elliott keeps coming over to see what I'm doing and if I'll play with him. I have to cook his food which makes me gag no matter what I feed him. And on top of all that, he's pretty sick with a runny nose and cough right now so he doesn't feel good either and wants to be held. Yesterday us two sickies just laid in bed watching Pride and Prejudice together. :)

This time of pregnancy sickness (I call it that instead of morning sickness because I actually feel best in the mornings and it slowly gets worse and worse all day.) is actually not as bad as with Elliott. With Elliott I couldn't keep anything down and there was no relief. This time I'm able to pick a food that actually sounds good and I've kept ALMOST everything down. Not throwing up this time nearly as much. Day 1 of when the sickness hit, all I wanted was grilled cheese sandwiches. Day 2 I only had sushi...but I had 3 big plates of it. ;) It was yummy! Day 3 all I wanted were bean and cheese burritos. Still waiting today, on day 4, to see what sounds good.

So my gut instinct says a girl on this one. I'd love another boy for a playmate with Elliott though...but if it's a girl, of course I'd love her just as much. :)

I knew I'd be feeling sick soon so at the beginning of the week, I took Elliott to the park, a play day with friends, and the library. Here are some pictures of the fun he had!

Gluten and Dairy free Mud Pie

I've been wanting an ice cream cake all day, but really don't want to throw in the towel on being healthy like I did with Elliott's pregnancy and gain 45lbs! So I found this delicious alternative based off a recipe my Aunt Julie gave me. I simplified the original recipe a bit because I was too sick and lazy to want to spend too much time in the kitchen today.

Find a box of gluten free chocolate cookies.
Add 2-4 tblsp coconut oil.
Mix in food processor.
Press into pie pan.
Melt chocolate chips.
Scoop softened ice cream into pie pan.
Drizzle melted chocolate chips on top. I should have used the whole bag so the top of the pie could be covered. I didn't want to go back and melt more so I'll just remember that for next time. ;)
Put in freezer for about an hour.
Cut and serve. Delicious and easy!

Green Smoothie

I've been having a hard time getting Elliott to eat recently. He's fine living off his goat's milk, cheese and bananas. I've made all different kinds and varieties of foods to get some good nutrition in him, but he seems to hate all food. (I sure hope this is just a temporary picky phase.) One food group he has decided he will not even try are vegetables. I guess that's typical, but I was hoping since I fed him so many vegetable dishes in the beginning, that he'd always just like them. I guess it doesn't work that way. Today I read about green smoothies being great for kids and don't know why I never thought of that. I tried it this morning.

Here's what we did:
-Half a banana
-2 handfuls of different leafy greens
-Some frozen blueberries and strawberries (for green drinks you just want to make sure the ratio is 40% greens and 60% fruit)
-1 tblsp of orange juice concentrate (it's a more frugal way to put juice in your smoothie since you can stretch the concentrate longer than buying the juice)
-1/2 tblsp chia seeds
Add water and blend!

The result? Elliott LOVED it.
